A CHORUS LINE OF ADORABLE LITTLE GIRLS PERFORM IN MANCHESTER, ENGLAND

This vintage real photo postcard captures a “chorus line” of little girls during dance class. Perhaps they are performing in a recital. These costumed dance students are simply adorable. This photograph was taken by R. S. Parker. He operated a studio in Manchester, England. Some of his photographs are held by England’s National Archives, as well as by the Manchester Archives. During my research, I was able to find three of his photographs online. All the images were taken in schools. Perhaps, Parker’s niche was school photography. This vintage postcard is in very good condition (see scans).

PORTRAIT OF A PRETTY WOMAN IN THE BLACK (MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE)

This cabinet card portrait features a bust portrait of an attractive woman taken at the Langley studio in Manchester, New Hampshire. The photographer used a dark background effectively to produce a beautiful image. The subject is wearing a pretty dress and a collar pin. The photographer of this image is Josiah T. Langley (1856-1916). Langley was married to Kate Langley (1869-?) in 1891 and the couple had two female children. The girls are listed in the 1910 census as being twelve years old. The siblings, Florence and Grace, were probably twins. A published interview with his daughter reveals that Langley was a pioneer in photographing snowflakes. Langley’s daughter also asserts that her father died due to his long term exposure to photographic chemicals. To view other images by Langley, click on the category “Photographer: Langley”.

PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG COUPLE IN LEEDS, ENGLAND

QUEENS ARCADE_0003A young well dressed couple pose for their portrait at the Allen Nield studio in England. The woman in this photograph appears to be only semi conscious but she is probably just at a loss as to how to pose for the camera. Nied had four studios at the time that this photograph was taken. There were two galleries in Leeds, and one each in Manchester and Stockport.
