HANDSOME MAN WITH FORMIDABLE MUSTACHE IN NEW YORK CITY

FORMIDABLE MUSTACHE_0001

A formally dressed gentleman poses for his portrait at the Alman & Company studio in New York City. He has a great bushy mustache which earns a spot in the category “Mustaches (Only the Best)”. Click on this category to view other facial hair masterpieces. Note the man’s wide lapels and bow tie. One source states that Louis Alman (1835-?) was active in New York City and Newport, Rhode Island from the 1870’s through 1920. The dates have not been confirmed by research.

  1. I wonder if his mustache was grown to hide his prominent jutting jaw?

  2. I have a whole photo album of pictures like this from the 1800’s and early 1900’s and don’t know what to do with them. I suppose they are worth something to somebody. What should I do with them??

    • I would suggest selling them on an internet auction site. If they are cabinet cards of interest, they will find homes with collectors who appreciate them. If you need assistance assessing their value, you can scan them and send them to me at bmarshphd@mac.com. I certainly would be glad to give you my opinion on their value.
