TINTYPE PORTRAIT OF A VERY ATTRACTIVE YOUNG WOMAN

This tintype portrait features a very pretty young woman. She is attractively dressed and nicely accessorized. Note her neckband, beautiful long earrings, and lovely hat. This woman clearly knew how to put herself together. She was a pioneering fashionista. Tintype photography was most popular during the 1860’s and 1870’s.

  1. This picture is so perfect, it’s like it is not really old. I copied it, and fixed it to be a lighter black and white. It is like she is a 21st century person who had there picture taken at one of those photography studios that lets you dress up in old period clothes and takes your photo. Kind of eerie, realizing she is probably about 165 years old now.

  2. Yes, she has a face that would seem to be completely “at home” in our own time, does she not? If she were garbed in a sweater and jeans and holding a smart phone–agree, she’d photograph as a “21st century person.” Beautiful, marvelously clear image.

  3. Another marvelous example of the treasure trove of photography buried on these little pieces of metal. Reverse left & right and photo-shop away the dark overlay and one can appreciate how good the practitioners of this format could be by today’s standards. This subject is striking, then or now. Thanks much for showing.
