A BULGARIAN MILITARY OFFICER AND HIS PRETTY WIFE

bulgarian-officer-and-wife

This cabinet card photograph features a Bulgarian uniformed military officer and his wife. The officer is wearing a medal on his chest and is holding a pair of dress gloves. He is wearing high boots which may indicate that he is a member of the cavalry. The soldier’s wife is quite pretty. She is clutching a purse and wearing a pair of leather gloves. An inscription on the reverse of the photograph indicates that this portrait was taken in 1916. The photographer was C. Balus and the location of his studio was in Rousse  (Pyce), Bulgaria. Rousse is currently the fifth largest city in Bulgaria. It is in the northeastern part of the country and is located on the banks of the Danube. The city is often called “Little Vienna”.

PORTRAIT OF A BULGARIAN FAMILY (FATHER IS WEARING A MILITARY UNIFORM)

bulgaria 1

This cabinet card portrait features a Bulgarian family. The seated man and woman may be the parents of the three individuals behind them. It is also possible that the five subjects in the photograph are siblings. The man in the image is wearing a military uniform. The previous owner of this image asserted that his uniform indicates that he holds the rank of sergeant. The little boy in the image is also wearing a uniform. It may be a school uniform or possibly he is dressing in this manner in order to imitate his older brother or father. The females in this image are wearing traditional clothing. Some words are penciled on the reverse of the photograph but I do not know their translated meaning. The cabinet card gallery has several Bulgarian photographs and they are quite interesting. YOUNG GIRL WITH A FAR OFF STARE SOMEWHERE IN EUROPE

A young girl with a “far away” expression is captured in this cabinet card portrait. She is wearing a white gown and her appearance can be described as “haunting”. The previous owner of this photograph asserts that it is of Bulgarian origin and was from a studio in Sofia. The reverse of the image has a printed medal dated 1892 which informs the viewer that the photograph was taken after that date. Assistance from cabinet card gallery visitors would be appreciated in determining the country where this picture originated.

PORTRAIT OF A FAMILY WITH LOTS OF UNKNOWNS

bulgarian_0003This family portrait captures what appears to be three siblings posing in a studio located in an eastern European country. I would guess that this photograph is of Bulgarian origin but I am uncertain. Hopefully, cabinet card gallery’s reliable and knowledgeable research department (consisting of the sites interesting and informative visitors) will be able to decipher and translate the studio’s address listed on the bottom of the photograph.

TWO CUTE YOUNG SISTERS IN SOFIA, BULGARIA

This cabinet card features two young girls posing for their portrait at a photographer’s studio. The girls are most probably sisters, and they are very cute. Note their large dark expressive eyes. The older girl is wearing a necklace with a locket or charm, while her little sister is wearing a necklace with a cross and holding a toy that could be a spinning top. The youngest child also has a strap over her shoulder which appears to be a bag of some kind. A previous owner of this cabinet card states that the photograph was produced by a studio in Sofia, Bulgaria. The name of the photographer is difficult to decipher and hopefully a Bulgaria savvy visitor to the Cabinet Card Gallery, will be able to provide the name of the producer of this image.
